Verkauf Musique is one of the projects standing apart from most contemporary bands on the Czech scene. The band describes its music as ostpunk — a style inspired by the East German punk scene of the 1980s with influences from British and French avant-garde movements.
The result is a raw sound built on noisy guitars, minimalist German lyrics and a strong visual identity closely connected to the band itself.
From audiovisual duo to full band
The project originally started in 2002 as an audiovisual duo formed by Jiří Šimeček, known from projects such as Toyen and Letadlo, together with Jan Ondřej, who remains the band’s frontman and lyricist to this day.
Later, Jiří Charypar — known from bands including Švihadlo and Máma Bubo — joined the project, giving Verkauf Musique a more traditional band structure.
From the very beginning, the project was never only about music. Visual aesthetics and atmosphere have always played an important role as well.
Raw sound and German lyrics
The music of Verkauf Musique is based on energetic punk foundations while maintaining a distinct identity. Noisy guitars, simple rhythmic structures and slogan-like German lyrics create a sound that often carries an almost industrial atmosphere.
This combination of music, visuals and overall aesthetics makes the band quite unique within the Czech music scene.
Albums and current music
The first official album, “Sein Leben”, was released by Verkauf Musique in 2010 and is currently being reissued. Several EPs and additional releases followed afterward.
In 2023, the band released the LP “Die Speisekarte”, followed in 2024 by the EP “Trabi Katastrophe”, available digitally as well as in a limited Verkauf Box edition.
Recent releases have also received positive feedback in German-speaking countries, where the band performs live and releases physical editions.
Concerts in the Czech Republic and abroad
The band performs mainly in the Czech Republic, especially in Prague, but also regularly appears abroad.
Thanks to its unique style and connection to German-inspired aesthetics, Verkauf Musique continues building an audience beyond the local scene.
Conclusion
Verkauf Musique brings a distinct form of ostpunk to the Czech scene, built on raw sound, German lyrics and a strong atmosphere.
And it is exactly this combination that makes the band follow its own path outside common musical formulas.
